American Bison

We call them buffalo, but they are really bison. This majestic animal, which roamed America west of the Mississippi River during the mid 1800's, was described as "blanketing the prairie." Our latest display by Otto and Amy Jones, and Dave Maynard, vividly portrays the history of an animal vital to the Native Americans and an important part of South Jordan's history before the settlers arrived. Learn bison basics and interesting facts about this honored and respected animal. Take a moment to sit on the buffalo robe and look up through the smoke holes as you imagine your life in such a home. Imagine all the ways you might use the buffalo in your daily life. What about "buffalo chips?" Can you imagine a hamburger barbequed on the smoking coals from buffalo "poop"? What a great display to learn new and exciting information!
